Violette está en edad de casarse cuando en 1852 su pueblo es brutalmente privado de todos sus hombres tras la represión ordenada por Napoleón III. Las mujeres pasan meses en aislamiento total. Violette is old enough to get married when her village in the Lower Alps is cruelly deprived of all its men by the repression that followed the republican uprising of December 1851. For the next two years, the village is completely cut off. The women swear an oath that if a man should come, he will become their shared husband, so that life may continue to flourish in each of their wombs.

Castro es una estrella de la televisión en declive. Cuando va a la inauguración de la casa de su productora y amiga, Nathalie, encuentra a Hélène, su ex-esposa, así como a su hija Nina. Al ver la oportunidad de ayudar a una refugiada Afgana, Hélène trata de convencer a su ex-marido para que lleve su situación al centro de atención. Castro tiene que tomar una decisión importante mientras sus calificaciones de audiencia continúan bajando.

Castro is a TV star on the decline. While going to the housewarming of his producer and friend, Nathalie, he meets Hélène, his ex-wife, as well as their daughter Nina. Seeing an opportunity to help an Afghan refugee, Hélène tries to convince her ex-husband to bring her situation to the spotlight. Castro has to make an important decision as his audience ratings continue to drop.
